"Castello di Ama per l’Arte Contemporanea" is a project that owes its existence to the desire to make accessible the realm of the invisible, to leave to our posterity a testimony of our own times, that can be read in a universal language.

In Greek philosophy, Genius was a divinity that represented all that was generated, that came into being, and it in turn was capable of generating those beings. The addition of the genitive-case loci indicated the genius specific to an individual location.
Terroir, on the other hand, is a term used in wine world to indicate the capability of a certain growing area to yield a wine that is utterly distinctive and unique. From here, in this very spot, and only here. Such is the pedigree of all of our wines.

For many years, we have produced Grandi Vini di Terroir, noble terroir-expressive wines that can stand up to the vagaries of time. We were confident, too, that this magical corner of earth could speak clearly to the heart of artists as well, could reach out and affect their sensitivity, thanks to its Genius loci.

Our collaboration with Galleria Continua, in San Gimignano, begun in 2000, has brought us Michelangelo Pistoletto, Daniel Buren, Giulio Paolini, Kendell Geers, Anish Kapoor, Carlos Garaicoa, Nedko Solakov, Cristina Iglesias, Louise Bourgeois, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Pascale Marthine Tayou, each with a site-specific installation.
